Quality of Materials
Leather… very high quality leather. the smell is wonderful. If you look really closely, the leather has a cool cracked look to it. The stitching is nice, but not the best that I have seen on a Noreve case. Specifically around the screen it looks a little uneven. The nylon on the inside of the case (with the embossed Noreve logo) is smooth enough to not damage your iPod.
Color
We are reviewing the Black color by Noreve. I have known iPod owners to be very picky about the design & color of their cases. With a bunch of color choices for the iPod it is good to know that Noreve has 13 color options as well. In regards to the black case that we are reviewing, well, its black. There is no discoloration or fading anywhere around the case & my experience with the Noreve cases is that fading will not happen in the future.
Fit and Design
Let us touch on the design first. This is a flip case, which is what Noreve is well-known for. The flip is a snap-less design, with a magnet in the center of the case, between the screen & wheel. When the case is closed, it protects covers all aspects of the iPod, yet still manages to remain a pretty slim case. The interesting thing is that you actually put your nano in upside down. Confused? Take a look at the pictures below. With the case open there are cutouts for the wheel and screen. There is also access to the hold switch and the headphone jack. To use the charging port, you would need to flip open the case and fold the flap over. Unfortunately, you would need to remove the iPod from the case in order to use a charging station or a speaker dock.
Now, the fit. In short, the fit is okay. You have access to everything you need to use the iPod (screen, click wheel, headphone jack), but the fit seems slightly off. When the iPod is in the case, you will notice that the click-wheel cutout is not entirely symmetrical and the same goes for the screen. Also, since the magnet for the flap is in the center of the case, there is a slight bulge between the screen and click-wheel.
Protection
This is a flip case, so naturally everything is covered and protected. The only point of weakness is the bottom-right corner of the nano, which sticks out enough to get damaged by a direct hit.
Clip
In the past I have not said very good things about the Noreve clip. In this instance, for the iPod nano it works okay. The ratchet function actually holds because the device is small and the slim profile of the clip is great, if you are wearing this on your belt. Personally, I could never see myself wearing the nano on my belt around town. My only use for it is when I am at the gym or running. I just clip the case to my waistband & it works great. It holds tightly & stays close to my body, so I won’t whack it into anything.
Conclusion
The Noreve case is protective and a descent fit. With quite a few color options, you can certainly tailor it to your iPod and outfit. The clip works okay in this instance. The Noreve line is quite pricey, but the leather quality is outstanding. If you are looking for a good fitting and protective case, this might be a way to go.
