Review of the Proporta Dual Skin Silicone Case for the Apple iPhone 3G

Category: Apple, Proporta, Skin case

CAM_1692 Style: 9

Though it’s not as elegant as some other cases you’ll see here on CaseScoop, this silicone skin is attractive and has a way of making the iPhone itself look even better. The side grips even add a sporty, more interesting look.

Protection: 8.5

Everything besides the touchscreen is protected by the double layered silicone. A simple answer is to also purchase a Proporta screen protector. That way every aspect of the device will be accounted for and protected with the utmost care at an affordable cost.

Functionality: 10

I’m not lying when I say you’ll have complete access to all basic functions of the iPhone 3G. Take a look at the pictures; everything is accounted for.

Conclusion: 9

I am a big fan of this silicone skin. It’s attractive, protective, and completely function-accessible while still affordable. I’m sure not every customer out there will be a fan, but I definitely recommend it to those interested in a skin for the iPhone 3G.

Color:

The color I’ve received is the white and clear double layered case for the iPhone 3G, which is nice because it helps the black touchscreen stand out and makes the iPhone look pretty cool. I would say this white case is geared more toward a younger demographic, but the black/charcoal version of this case gives it a bit more of a sophisticated look. For me, though, I’d choose the white.

Fit and design:

This Proporta case really does fit like skin, as you simply wrap the case around the corners to hold the device securely in place. I love the design of the case; it’s taken everything the iPhone has to offer into consideration…each of the functions, and all the nooks and crannies of the device. Something I love most about this Proporta case is the fact that the functions are completely protected by the silicone. Because of its tight fit and rubbery material, each of the functions can be accessed while completely covered by the silicone case. For instance, the volume buttons and ring/silent switch are completely covered but can be adjusted while in the case, as well as the sleep/wake button. Additionally, there are openings in the material for functions such as the headset jack, microphone and dock connector, home button, and camera lens. The only portion of the device not protected by anything is the entire touchscreen, but if that is a big deal Proporta also offers advanced screen protectors. There are also side grips which seem to offer a sort of anti-slip protection.

Protection:

As stated above, the majority of the device is completely protected by the silicone cover, but there are a couple places on the device which are completely exposed. Those are the dock connector, the home button, a small part for the camera lens, and the entire touchscreen. I would say that the parts that are covered, however, are protected nicely by the thick silicone. I also think the dual skin adds additional protection.

Quality of materials:

This silicone material is nice, though I think the white color may have trouble actually staying white through frequent use. I just received the cases from Proporta and already it seems to pick up dirt easily. I would recommend the darker case if you prefer a clean look. This case weighs just under one ounce, and doesn’t add extra bulk to your device.

Conclusion:

I have indeed become a fan of these Proporta cases. I love the high-end leather cases I’ve done many reviews on prior, but these Proporta cases fit a younger demographic who may be looking for either something less expensive or more function-accessible. The silicon offers protection without adding extra bulk to the iPhone, and the design of the case is created completely for the device. I would recommend this case if you’re merely looking for a skin for your iPhone. It has everything I’d ever want from an iPhone skin, let alone an iPhone case. As long as I’d have a screen protector, I’d be good to go.
