While the style is nice, I don’t necessarily know if it’d satisfy every type of customer, but I think a change of color or texture (like the ‘Croco’dile skin cases) might help with that. It’s a straightforward design, but elegant nonetheless.

The parts that are covered by high-quality leather are completely protected, but there is quite a bit of device exposure that makes me worry about its well-being if dropped.

Functionality: 10

There isn’t anything this Sena case offers that obstructs access to all functions of the BlackBerry. Not only are there major exposures (thumbs down in terms of protection!) for access to the display screen and keypad, there are openings in the leather to access every basic function of the phone. Even the design of the case allows for simple device removal.

I highly recommend this case to those who are extremely delicate with their case, and who don’t mind the amount of device exposure. I tend to drop my devices somewhat frequently, so I would worry about the protection of my BlackBerry. That said, Sena offers a quality case with elegance and full-access to functions.

Color:

The color I’ve received from Sena is ‘Rustic Black’ which is just a nice, straightforward black color. The stitching is black as well which allows the stitching to sort of blend in with the black leather.

Fit and Design:

The design of this case is straightforward which is nice because with this case you won’t have to fumble around trying to figure out how to make the device fit into the leather. There is a small strap to keep the device in place, so first you’ll unsnap the strap, slide the BlackBerry 8900 into the leather lining, and snap the strap back into place. Simple as that. Hardly any adjustment is needed, and everything is aligned the way it should be in terms of function-access. There are openings in the leather for the basic functions of the BlackBerry Curve, including full access to the display, navigation keys, and keypad, the speaker/microphone, volume adjustment, lock button, and micro USB connector. There are also openings in the leather on the back of the case to allow for the camera lens.

The case itself hugs the BlackBerry snugly from the sides and back, but the top leather is a bit loose, as you will be able to see from the pictures. That said, this is premium handcrafted leather, each case completely unique from the rest, so it doesn’t surprise me that there are a few kinks here and there. The design of the case is nice; it’s simple in terms of being fairly angular while allowing for the device’s curves. It is elegant-looking, and extremely slim, though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the black leatherskin for every demographic. There are, however, a variety of colors to choose from which can really soften the business-looking façade of the case.

Protection:

I do have fears about the protection of the case with the amount of exposure to the device. Though I’m sure the leather would absolutely protect against harm, there is quite a bit not covered by leather so I worry about scratches and the occasional phone-drop. I do not worry much about the small openings in the leather for the functions, but rather the exposed display screen, navigation keys, and keypad. If this worries you, Sena does offer a variety of case collections like the Classic Flip-Down which has a top flip cover, as well as the MagnetFlipper which has a magnetic system to help keep the case closed when necessary. Sena also offers a straightforward pouch if functionality is not a major concern.

Quality of materials:

As stated above, this case is very slim, and with the amount of exposure to the device it is not surprising that this case weighs less than one ounce (0.7oz, to be exact). The leather is absolutely gorgeous and virtually flawless, and the stitching could not be more exact. Even the embossing in the interior and backside of the case is nicely crafted. I don’t so much like the rectangular base plate on the backside of the case, however, which serves as a mount for the removable belt clip coming with each case. I’m also not sure how great the belt clip is because it hardly opens, as shown in an attached picture. It may be fine for some, but for those needing a sturdy, large belt clip, this belt clip is not for you.

Conclusion:

There’s no denying that Sena is a top leather case manufacturer after holding and studying their BlackBerry 8900 Curve Leather Skin case. The leather is beautiful (and smells nice, too) and it’s clear they have the customer in mind. Sliding the device into the case could not have been easier, and once in, the leather not only slims the device but also hugs it in a way that allows each customer to know their BlackBerry is really cared for. My only upset with this case is the amount of exposure to the device, as I fear that once dropped the device would be done for. But as mentioned above, there are remedies for that… like buying a different collection of Sena case which has a top flap.
