Noreve’s Amazon Kindle DX Tradition Leather Case Review

cam_1768 Style: 9.5

The design of this case is elegant; it’s simple and direct while still looking classy.

Protection: 9.5

Everything that needs to be protected will be with this Noreve case, with a minor exception of two corners of the Kindle which are minimally exposed.

Functionality: 10

I’ve been able to access every single function the Kindle has to offer while still in the case.

Overall: 9.5

This is one of the highest-rating reviews I’ve ever given. I give two thumbs up to the designers of this Noreve case. It’s elegant, straightforward, function-accessible, and protective. I’ve yet to find any major concerns with this Noreve Kindle DX case!

Color:

I’ve received Noreve’s new Kindle DX case in black from the Perpetual Selection which is smooth, soft black leather. Though there are a variety of colors/texture options to choose from (19 colors, 3 textures), I think the black is nice because it’s elegant and sleek. It does, however, seem to have a sort of business feel (which you may or may not agree with) so if you’re interested in something fun or casual, I’d recommend another color from the Perpetual Selection or a different color/texture from the Ambition or Exceptional Selection.

Fit and Design:

I love the fit and design of this case because it’s so exact to the Kindle DX that it fits like a shoe. As with most Noreve products, this case securely holds the Kindle in place with its rail system which fits the Kindle to a tee. To fit the Kindle into the rail system, simply shift the device from the left portion of the open case to the right so that it will slide directly into the rails, hugging the Kindle from all ends. On the left interior of the case, Noreve has offered a complete travel wallet which includes three credit card slots, pockets for travel information and passports, and a clear (plastic) pouch for an ID or business card. This not only makes traveling information more accessible and organized, but it also eliminates the need for a separate travel pouch. On a lesser scale, if you’re headed to a local coffee shop to spend some time on your Kindle, you don’t need to bring a separate wallet or purse or backpack as you can keep your money and ID with you inside the Noreve case.

Another nifty aspect of this Kindle DX case is the fact that Noreve has eliminated the magnetic strap closure and replaced it with a hidden magnetic system within the interior of the case. What’s nice about this is that you don’t have to waste time strapping your Kindle in, or attempting to find a tiny snap at the back of the case; instead, you simply close the case and the magnetic system will keep the case shut and hold the Kindle in securely. While we’re on the subject of efficiency, Noreve has allowed openings in the leather on the top, bottom, and side of the case for access to all basic functions of the Amazon Kindle DX. This includes the volume controls, power switch, headphone jack, speakers, and charging port. When the case is open, there is complete access to the screen and keypad, as shown in the attached pictures.

Finally, a nice addition to the new Noreve Kindle case is the inclusion of two stainless loops on either end of the spine to allow for the option of a hand or shoulder strap. If you know you’ll never be using this feature, the loops can be folded against the case so they won’t be distracting or take away from the appeal of the case.

Protection:

Due to the high quality of the hand-crafted leather along with additional padding, this Noreve case offers top protection for such an expensive device. Everything that needs to be protected is, and there aren’t any unnecessary openings in the leather. The majority of the device is covered by the leather. The only area I may even question as potentially being unnecessarily exposed are the two right (top and bottom) corners of the Kindle. I worry that if dropped on either corner, it may be scuffed, though I doubt there would be actual damage to the device. That said, every other aspect of this case is protective with utmost quality.

Quality of materials:

This device is fairly large, so it’s no real surprise that the Noreve case weighs about 13½ ounces… which is still very light for being as protective as it is. The leather is hand-crafted; it’s beautiful, and hard to find a flaw in its seemingly perfect façade. The stitching is symmetrical and also virtually flawless, and the tiny Noreve logo on the bottom front corner of the case proves elegant like the rest of the case. The rail system is extremely sturdy, the magnetic system is strong, and the leather is durable to protect the Kindle DX against harm.

Conclusion:

I wouldn’t recommend this case unless I actually believed it to be a good pick for the Kindle DX. Reason being, the Kindle is an extremely expensive reading device which needs something of quality to protect it from harm. I genuinely believe this Noreve case to be a good fit for the Kindle DX because it’s made with top quality leather, the tight stitching will ensure durability, and the design of the case has the Kindle’s (and customer’s) interest at heart. I’m actually surprised this Noreve case isn’t more expensive. With an option of nineteen different colors and three different textures, this Noreve case will undoubtedly fulfill the wishes of any Kindle DX customer.

Hi, thanks for the review. I was considering this case but am worried that the smooth buttery leather of Noreve’s Perpetual Selection might not be durable enough. Therefore I am contemplating Noreve’s Ambition Selection range, specifically the Ebony colored one.

As you had first-hand experience with all of Noreve’s leather samples, how do you think that particular leather (i.e. Ebony Ambition Selection) would suit this case design aesthetically? In your opinion, does it portray a more executive, serious, classy, chic feel with that leather than the Black Perpetual Selection or might it be too “flashy/showy”?

First off, I don’t think the Ebony from the Ambition Selection would be too flashy or showy. In fact, I don’t think it’s flashy at all. The Ambition Selection is a good one, and if durability is what you’re looking for then the Ambition or Exceptional Selection may be more up your alley. Though I’ve not seen a Kindle DX case in the Ambition Selection, I did get to review multiple Kindle 2 cases a while ago and still have pictures of the Ebony Kindle 2 case which would look very similar to the DX case, just wouldn’t have the strap that the Kindle 2 has. Along with the Ebony case, there are also attached pictures of the Sandy Vintage from the Exceptional Selection along with the Ivory case from the Ambition Selection and Dark Vintage from the Exceptional Selection.
If a durable black case is what you’re looking for, I’d recommend either the Ebony from the Ambition Selection or Dark Vintage case from the Exceptional Selection. Both are very different from one another, though, as the textures vary greatly, so hopefully the pictures of the Kindle 2 case can help you decide which is better for you.

Indeed, I had seen those photos. But somehow, the color looked more of a lighter grey than black. For example: http://www.casescoop.com/wp-content/gallery/amazon-kindle-2-leather-case-by-noreve/amazon_kindle2_case_06.jpg

Is this how the color really looked like or was it due to the light reflecting off the coating on the pebbled leather? Relative to the black color of the perpetual selection, on a scale of 10 (10=black of perpetual selection & 0=white) how would you rate the black of the pebbled leather?

Secondly, how large is the granulation? On that Kindle 2 case’s photo, it seems that the texture relative to the case is rather large. Would you think that for a bigger case like the Kindle DX’s, the granulation won’t appear so intrusive? My preference is for a lower profile texture over one that shouts to everyone it’s pebbled leather.

    Thanks.
